Miso Film is a production company with subsidiaries in Norway and Sweden. Since 2004, Miso Film has produced some of the most popular and acclaimed films and TV series in Denmark. As of 2019, Miso Film has been 100% owned by Fremantle International, one of the largest producers and distributors of television programming in the world.

Since 2016, Corpital has served as a sounding board on Miso Film's ERP solution. The focus has been on optimizing a number of internal processes and automating a wide range of manual tasks.

Yield

  • Internally IT compliant with parent company
  • Significant savings on licenses
  • Major cleanup of older customizations
  • Fast execution.

Technological leap forward in 3 days

Fremantle is a multinational production and distribution company, which naturally has higher compliance requirements for its subsidiaries. To ensure Miso Film can best meet Fremantle's requirements now and in the future, Corpital upgraded an older version of Dynamics NAV, which Microsoft no longer supported, to the latest cloud version, Business Central.

With the upgrade to Business Central hosted in a Microsoft Azure environment, it has become significantly easier to comply with internal requirements regarding processes, approvals, and IT security.

Significant savings on licenses

It is no secret that Microsoft and subcontractor Continia, as part of their strategy, want to move all their customers to the cloud. In addition to being constantly up to date technologically with the latest features, Miso Film can also note that license prices for Microsoft and Continia products are significantly reduced.

Mette Sundberg: “Corpital's ROI spoke a very clear language. With the upgrade, we achieve larger monthly savings on licenses for Microsoft and Continia.

There are also a number of other advantages, e.g., Microsoft now operates our ERP solution, which means we are always on the latest version including the two major updates Microsoft releases annually. These are implemented automatically, so we benefit from new features without an "upgrade project".”

Efficient execution

As an alternative to a normal upgrade process, Corpital suggested doing a direct conversion.

This meant that we stopped the production database, performed the conversion, and started with live data, subsequently fixing bugs and adjusting the new environment.

Stuart Jackson, Nordic Finance Director, and Mette Sundberg, Accounting at Miso Film, were fully aligned with this mindset and hard execution, as the solution is not business-critical on a daily operational level for them.

This approach meant that Miso Film skipped test conversion and a series of functional tests. Miso Film was without an ERP system for only 3 days, but in return, it meant the project's finances were lower and execution was faster. Naturally, it should be mentioned that this was only possible because customizations were cut to the bone and the setup is relatively simple.

Mette Sundberg: “Once Fremantle approved the project, it wasn't long before we started the upgrade. We had to take a deep breath, but in retrospect, it was an advantage to be "pushed" into quick action. The project plan held, and it was a huge relief to reach the finish line with the upgrade.”

Major cleanup of older customizations

In our initial discussions, we reviewed the customizations Miso Film had made over time. Together, we identified eight major customizations, which were carefully examined. The focus was to investigate whether "standard functionality" in Business Central could cover the needs without the older customizations.

The result was that three customizations were skipped and five smaller customizations are now placed in Extensions. For example, logic was developed to move job numbers on G/L entries, a special approval flow, and logging on vendors, and SIE reporting is now supported in Sweden, including dimensions and G/L account mapping.

Mette Sundberg: “We cut to the bone regarding customizations. If it turns out we cleaned up too much, we will revisit the need and possibly develop it — but for now, we prioritized cleaning up.”

With subsidiaries in Sweden and Norway, it was important for Miso Film that Business Central supports country-specific requirements. If you need a solution that has multiple country-specific accounts in the same database, this is a general challenge in Business Central. Corpital provided guidance on options, and Miso Film's processes are now supported satisfactorily.

Stuart Jackson: “Corpital was great at introducing us to the new capabilities in Business Central. We are now self-sufficient regarding user management, setups, and general system use. We have obtained the right foundation to support Fremantle's ambitions and expectations for Miso Film.”
